MATCH REPORT | Mildenhall Town U18 EJA 1-4 Felixstowe & Walton U18
Mildenhall Town U18 EJA go down 4-1 to a direct Felixstowe U18 Thurlow Nunn Side
Mildenhall Town U18 preparations for their Eastern Junior Alliance campaign continued with a disappointing 1-4 defeat to Felixstowe & Walton United U18 at the Witchford Sports Centre.
George Leech’s first half goal had levelled the game for Keith Grinlings’s side after Felixstowes number 9 had initially given the visitors the advantage. However, the Seasiders struck once more in the first half and twice in the second half to resign Hall to their third defeat in three pre-season games.
Due to a limited number of players and player availability, it was decided that the EJA side would face Felixstowe & Walton United's U18 Thurlow Nunn side.
The Seasiders took an early lead in the tussle, when capitalised on a fumbled save by Darryl Reid on the 29th minute, before tapping into an empty Hall net.
With the U’s looking for a quick response, Jordan Emms and Ben Nolan, who both looked threatening in possession, skewed efforts from the edge of the area to level the scores.
It took until the 40th minute for the Hall to draw level, when a short back pass from Felixstowe was taken advantage of by George Leech, who slotted the ball past the visiting goalkeeper to give the Hall hope.
United had the opportunity to grasp a lead of their own shortly after, when another set piece delivery from the right by Bellerby found Thomas Sheehan with space in the area, however the Hall defender was unable to guide his header over the goal line.
However, the Seasiders regained the advantage on the scoreboard when Keith Ndungu lost possession in the defending third, and the visitors scored a tap in after the winger neatly crossed the ball to the unmarked striker.
The second half began with a promising period of play for the Hall, with attempts on goal from Ben Nolan and a header from Curtis Grinling, to show for the hosts possession style of play.
It was the visitors direct style of play and route one football that gave the Seasiders the lead. Felixstowe extended the deficit further with 30 minutes to play. A long ball from the defenders caught the Hall sleeping, and with Darryl Reid rushing out, the striker calmly rounded the keeper and slotted the ball home into the far right of the goal from 12 yards out.
With the Hall pushing high up field to find a route back into the fixture, another long ball up from the Felixstowe defence caught Mildenhall on the break, and the visitors drilled the ball low and hard off of either post and into the back of the net, which completed the score line for the visitors.
Though the scoreline may not reflect the performance, impressive performances from EJA players George Leech, Callum Horn & Ben Nolan were highlights from today's fixture.
