Goals from Dan Brown, Shaun Avis and Jacob Brown see Mildenhall comfortably win penultimate pre-season friendly

First half goals from Shaun Avis & Dan Brown send Mildenhall Town on their way to see off the hosts and secure The Hall a win in their penultimate pre-season friendly.

It was a quiet start to the game, with the first chance not coming until the 6th minute, when Dan Brownpicked up the ball from range and tried his luck, but the effort when just over the bar.

Next time however, it was his strike partner Shaun Avis that would make it count as ten minutes later, the striker was free in the box, and was picked out by Dan Brown after a lovely ball from Chambers-Shaw, and Avis hammered the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-0 to the Hall.

Hall didn’t stop there and continued to press to try and double the lead and Jake-Chambers Shaw had an effort from a tight angle inside the box, but it went over the bar.

Peterborough Sports had their first effort on target moments later, Josh Moreman captialised on a loose ball and drilled a shot at Sam Roach, which was well saved down to his right-hand side by the Mildenhall shot-stopper.

However, the Peterborough pressure didn’t last long and Hall doubled their lead after 34 minutes, when that man Dan Brown was involved again as he ran past defender Josh Sanders with ease and comfortably passed the ball past Mildenhall Town loanee, James Connell, who is currently on a short term loan at Peterborough Sports.

Jimmy Dean’s side looked to start a comeback and Avelina Vieria got it past Jake Kerrins, then when he let rip, Sam Roach put his body on the line and blocked the shot from going towards goal from 6 yards out.

Some excellent play from the Hall in the 41st minute, Joe Asensi switched play to Jake Kerins who did ever so well, he then set it up to Avis, who played it back to Simpson, but he couldn’t direct his effort on goal.

That was all for the first half and as the teams came out for the second period, there was a change for Dean Greygoose’s side, with Avis, Simpson & Green coming off for Stillinger, Hood & J Brown.

The hosts started brightly in the second half and were close to getting a goal back, Moreman went on a solo run and was able to get a shot away which he fired just wide of Roach's goal.

Peterborough Sports almost grabbed a goal a few minutes later, Jamie Graham was played through and he fired an effort which skimmed the side netting.

However, it was Mildenhall who made their effort count. A cross by Trialist 1 was contested evenly by Alex Stillinger and the Peterborough keeper. But the ball was dropped in the box and found Jacob Brown, who calmly slotted home into an empty net to make it 3-0 to the visitors.

Another chance followed in the 62nd minute. A long direct ball fell straight into the path of Chris Bacon inside the box and the striker tried a first-time effort which went wide of the goal.

75 minutes on the clock and Peterborough Sports made their breakthrough, Moreman was found on the edge of the box and after beating two Mildenhall defenders, calmly slotted the ball underneath the excellent Sam Roach to give Peterborough Sports a consolation goal.

Peterborough Sports continued to mount pressure on the Hall and were awarded a controversial penalty in the 81st minute, but Vieria was denied by Sam Roach, who made a sublime save down to his left hand side.

Mildenhall Town were able to keep Jimmy Dean’s side at bay for the remainder of the second half and pick a win on the road as their season preparations come to a close.
