Mildenhall United FC

Mildenhall United was formed in 2008 by a group of friends in Mildenhall so that they could enjoy football their way. They found a local pitch at the Jubilee playing field, applied to join the St Edmundsbury Football League and were accepted to join for season 2008-09. After being placed into division 2 of the league they started well with a 10 game unbeaten run. In their 1st season they managed to finish in 4th place, they had been to the final in the league cup and were only knocked out of the Suffolk Primary Cup by the eventual winners Redgrave Rangers.

Season 2009-10 saw the team win their 1st silverware after a thrilling encounter at Ram Meadow against RF Saints, United won the game 5-3.

United finished in 3rd place gaining promotion to division 1 capping a rewarding season for the reds, the only downside was being knocked out in the 1st round of the Suffolk Primary Cup by local rivals Bury Rovers.

Season 2010-11 was uneventful but did see United set new records. Traveling away to Elephant & Castle United recorded their biggest win to date in a 10-1 demolition that saw striker Chris Merchant score 6 goals in a game which is also a club record. However as the season progressed United faced a home tie against Priors, United lost the game 13-2 which is the record for the biggest defeat and still stands to this day. United finished in 8th place this was just enough to see them retain their division 1 status for the following season.

Season 2011-12 was pretty much the same as the season before but did see United finish in 5th place. However this was to be United’s last season in the St Edmundsbury League after being accepted into the Cambridgeshire County League Division 3B for 2012-13 season. United created an affiliation with Mildenhall Town, where they reached an agreement to use Town’s facilities for the new season and act as a development club for Town helping their younger players gain experience in adult football.
